SHERIFF HUTTON NEAR YORK

Malton 10 miles; York 11 miles.

Located amid gentle hills between York and Malton, the peaceful village of Sheriff Hutton is steeped in history, with a ruined castle (built in 1382 and housing Richard III in 1483), and a medieval church with Norman tower dating from 1100, and which still has enclosed pews today. The village is delightful, with a small square and two pubs, both serving food, one dating back to the 1600s. Handily placed for touring, the City of York is only 11 miles away while the North York Moors steam railway in Pickering and the East coast seaside towns of Bridlington, Hornsea and Scarborough, as well as Whitby and Harrogate are all within an hour's drive. Local activities abound and the area is excellent for walking, cycling and exploring.

This extremely comfortable cottage definitely lived up to it's name! Situated in a beautiful location it was an ideal spot from which to visit York and many other Yorkshire attractions (not to mention the excellent local pubs). We received a very warm welcome from the owners who had also prepared an informative guide to the property and local services, together with an abundance of 'tourist leaflets' and walking guides. We had some great walks 'from the door' and some wonderful days out - altogether a super holiday

The fact that the cottage was in the middle of nowhere but the local village was 2 miles away. It was a super cottage, and a place we will re visit again.
